Why does this website deserve to win?:
ITV Food is a searchable database of recipes and associated food content, all of which feature on popular day time TV programmes shown by ITV, the UK's largest terrestrial commercial broadcaster. Delivering the project for the client was a community effort, with three agencies contributing to its delivery, led by Miggle of Brighton.
The website showcases food related video clips which are associated with content from ITV's broadcast player. It offers the user the ability to search for recipes and filter down results using faceted search, or to browse through Chef or Programme pages to find related content. There are plenty of commercial opportunities for display advertisers, as well as sponsorship placements on certain types of content, which are targetable via a variety of taxonomies.
How It Was Done (optional):
The search functionality is powered by SOLR. Integration with proprietary ITV technology, like the video player, adserver and stats are managed via custom modules. The site runs across multiple environments, allowing for full QA testing and UAT which takes place each release. New features and functionality are released on a regular basis. The site makes use of both memcache and Varnish for caching.
Editorially, content managers are able to describe content by using a variety of taxonomies which make it an easier deal to present users with relevant and related content.
The initial effort required data migration from a legacy recipe database. The data model was then augmented to make it more relevant to this site and the way in which we wanted users to be able to search for content.
Miggle build content managed solutions for clients using open source software like Drupal - we're currently working on Drupal projects for ITV, Air New Zealand and Museum of London. We also specialise in content creation, editorial and social media engagement.
